The family of Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has confirmed that one of his legs was amputated following a series of critical health challenges.
The actor, who had previously sought financial support from well-wishers, underwent a total of seven successful surgeries before the decision to amputate was made in an effort to preserve his life.
In a statement released on Monday, the family expressed their gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support during this trying time.
The statement highlighted the challenges faced by the family and their acceptance of the difficult decision to amputate one of Mr Ibu’s legs to ensure his survival.
“As of 1 pm today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries, but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated,“ the statement read.
“This development has been hard on us all, but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive.“
“Please we are still soliciting for support from well meaning Nigerians as this stage Daddy is is still one very delicate one and he needs all the help he can get.
“Thank you everyone, the Okafor family is grateful and we don’t take you for granted. In due time Daddy will personally acknowledge everyone who supported during this period as soon as he’s stable!”
