Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has demanded that Governor Siminalayi Fubara step down within 48 hours or face impeachment proceedings.
The call for resignation is based on accusations of disrespect towards President Bola Tinubu and alleged breaches of constitutional duties.
According to Okocha, Governor Fubara displayed blatant disrespect toward President Tinubu during efforts to mediate the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Speaking on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okocha issued a stern ultimatum to the governor, demanding his resignation or the initiation of impeachment proceedings.
“As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressives Congress,” Okocha stated. “He has disrespected Mr. President and we told him that we cannot be here and have him disrespect Mr. President.”
The APC chairman further alleged that the governor’s offenses had already been validated by the Supreme Court, which he claims provided additional evidence to support his stance. According to Okocha, the Rivers State House of Assembly does not need to conduct further investigations into the matter.
“The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidence. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him,” he added.
Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, Okocha argued that the 48-hour ultimatum was more than enough time for the governor to make his decision. “48 hours is too much to give him as ultimatum. He should just resign honourably,” he concluded.
