The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed a viral report suggesting a kidnapping occurred in Ofosu, along the Lagos-Ore expressway, clarifying that the incident actually took place in neighbouring Edo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, refuted claims made by an online news platform, noting that investigations revealed the event did not happen within Ondo State’s jurisdiction.
“Following a detailed investigation carried out in conjunction with relevant local authorities, it has been established that there was no kidnapping in Ofosu or along the Lagos-Ore road,” Olushola stated.
According to the command, the actual scene of the incident was identified as Ugbogui, a community near Ohosu, located on the Benin-Okada highway in Edo State—highlighting the need for geographical accuracy in media reporting.
The police spokesperson called on journalists and media outlets to uphold professional standards by verifying facts before going to press, stressing that misinformation could stir undue fear among the populace.
“We appeal to the public and media to confirm details before disseminating information to avoid spreading panic,” the statement added.
The command also reassured residents of its continuous commitment to maintaining peace and security, noting that it remains in close coordination with both local and federal security agencies.
