According to the 3rd Quarter 2023 budget performance report of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s office allocated a staggering N6 billion for operational expenses within a three-month period.
The detailed report, accessible on the state government’s website, outlined an expenditure of N209 million specifically designated for personal expenses within the governor’s office. Compiled by the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget, and Development, the document encompasses the income and expenditure statements between July and September 2023.
While elucidating the state government’s expenditures, the report omitted details on the revenue generated during the same quarter.
The breakdown of the expenses unveiled substantial allocations, such as over N800 million spent by the state House of Assembly during this period. Additionally, the Osun government disclosed expenditures exceeding N2 billion on refreshments, meals, and welfare packages for officials.
Specifically, N1.75 billion was directed towards welfare packages, with an additional N456,401,074.13 designated for refreshments and meals. Moreover, the report indicated a separate allocation of N400 million for publicity and advertisements.
In response to inquiries, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, highlighted the complex structure of the governor’s office, comprising multiple agencies, departments, and various government-wide operations. Alimi clarified that the allocated funds cater to both capital and recurrent expenses, covering the operational costs of all entities functioning under the governor’s office.
