The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Ajisafe Toyese as the party’s vice-chairman for the south-west zone, filling the vacancy left by the late Soji Adagunodo.
Debo Ologunagba, spokesperson for the PDP, confirmed Toyese’s appointment in a statement released on Friday.
Hailing from Osun state, Toyese is set to complete the remaining term of Adagunodo, who passed away in May 2023.
According to Ologunagba, Toyese’s appointment was ratified at the meeting of the south-west zonal executives on January 25, 2024, in accordance with the provision of section 46 (7) of the party’s constitution.
A lawyer and engineer by profession, Toyese previously served as the deputy director-general of the PDP presidential campaign organization in 2023.
He has also played pivotal roles in various PDP governorship campaign councils across the south-west region.
Describing Toyese as a “practical political mobilizer,” the statement highlighted his intellectual acumen, extensive experience, and remarkable contributions to the party at different levels of engagement.
“The PDP is proud of hon. Toyese’s dedication to the stability, growth and success of the party, especially in his exceptionally untiring roles in mobilising massively for the party at various levels,” the statement reads.
The NWC of the PDP called upon Toyese to leverage his new position to foster unity, galvanize support, and energize the party in the south-west zone.
They also urged him to collaborate with other leaders to ensure the continued success of the PDP in the region.
