President Bola Tinubu turned 72 on Friday, March 29, 2024, marking the occasion in a subdued manner befitting the nation’s current challenges.
He had earlier admonished that nobody should celebrate, wish him well publicly, or publish any form of commemoration for his birthday.
In deference to the prevailing difficulties in Nigeria, President Tinubu decided to forego any celebratory event for his 72nd birthday anniversary.
Instead, he called on well-wishers to direct any funds they might have spent on birthday celebrations towards charitable organizations.
In a press statement released by the Special Adviser on Information to the President, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed that in light of the challenges confronting the nation and the recent killings of military and police officers in Delta State, it would be inappropriate to hold lavish birthday festivities.
However, the President observed Jumat Prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja, marking his birthday solemnly and reflectively.
After the prayers, Tinubu returned to the Presidential Villa, eschewing any celebratory events or fanfare.
