The identity of a policeman who shot a 40 year old electrician named Benalayefa Bako Asiayei to death has been revealed by the Bayelsa State Police Command.
The Man was shot to death by the police officer over N200 argument along Azikoro Road, Yenagoa.
Report has it that the deceased, Asiayei was journeying from work in his Toyota Sienna vehicle around 8:00pm on Tuesday, he was shot to death by the police officer attached to Operation Doo Akpo, the Bayelsa State security outfit.
Late Asiayei, an electrician was a native of Bobougbene community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
He was having a passenger in the front seat during the incident.
An eyewitness said the Operation Doo Akpo patrol stopped the driver and demanded for N200 as their usual routine from motorists which the deceased was incapacitated to obliged, the deceased complained to the police officer that he was carrying only one passenger, the officer in a reaction suddenly cocked his gun and shot the Man.
The officer was later identify at the scene by some members of the public who captured his picture.
The deceased corpse was taken to Government House Hospital, Yenagoa and subsequently to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa morgue.
In a recent development, the family of the deceased seeks for justice pleading on Governor Douye Diri, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Ijaw Youth Council to swing into action in curbing police brutality in Bayelsa State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Bayelsa State, Musa Mohammed confirmed that there was an occurrence of the act, he stated that the killer officer identity had been revealed and arrested whereby internal disciplinary action will soon commence after interrogation.
