President Muhammadu Buhari has decorated the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko with the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, GCON.
Okay.ng reports that the award, which is second to the highest honour in the country was conferred on ex-CJN Tanko at the sweaing-in of the Acting CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Buhari praised the Honourable Justice who resigned on health grounds.
He particularly highlighted some achievements of Nigeria’s Judiciary under the leadership of Chief Justice, such as dealing with the issue of reckless and indiscriminate grant of ex-parte Orders which was assuming serious dimensions.
He further noted that history will be kind to Justice Tanko for his modest contributions to Nigeria’s Judiciary which serves as a bridge to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and national development.
President Buhari further admonished Justices of the Supreme Court to always remain faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and to remain steadfast in discharging their duties.
The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President, Oluyemi Osinbajo; the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; and some Justices the of Supreme Court.
