A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), O’tega Ogra is widely recognized as one of West Africa’s foremost Corporate, Strategic, and Crisis Communications Executives, boasting a career spanning almost two decades across international development, financial services, and manufacturing sectors.
Currently serving as the Director/Group Head of Corporate Communications at BUA Group, a multibillion-dollar conglomerate with investments in diverse industries such as foods, mining, manufacturing, cement production, and infrastructure, O’tega has solidified his reputation as a highly respected crisis manager and strategic communications executive.
His unwavering commitment to excellence and his notable achievements in brand management, marketing, and, communications speak volumes about his expertise.
O’tega embarked on his professional journey as a Field Officer for HIV/AIDS & Reproductive Health at the German Agency for International Development (GIZ)/FGN Multisectoral Women Empowerment Programme in North East Nigeria.
There, he managed five projects related to HIV/AIDS & Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood, Girl-Child Education, and Access to Justice for Women & Children.
In 2008, he joined GTBank, where he played a pivotal role in positioning the bank as a leader in youth and digital marketing through initiatives like Ndani, GTcrea8, and the establishment of the bank’s social media platforms in 2009.
At the remarkable age of 24, O’tega became the youngest-ever Corporate Communications leader in the banking industry when he assumed the role at Wema Bank.
During his tenure, he successfully spearheaded the bank’s rebranding program, which concluded in May 2015.
Presently, O’tega holds the prestigious position of Director & Group Head of Corporate Communications at BUA Group, one of Africa’s largest conglomerates.
In this role, he bears the responsibility of developing and supervising comprehensive strategies for corporate communications, brand management, marketing, CSR, crisis management, and reputation management for the Group and most of its subsidiaries.
He has also been instrumental in shaping the public perception of the Group to become a well-renowned company. O’tega also managed the company’s widely acclaimed Covid-19 intervention programme across Nigeria, as well as the subsequent setting up of the personal philanthropy of the BUA Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu – The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa)
O’tega holds a degree in Public Health from Babcock University. A two-time corporate communications executive of the year in Nigeria, and spokesperson of the year 2021, O’tega is a member of the Executive Committee of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria and was recently Honoured amongst the 2022 100 Most Influential Persons of African Descent under the UN Decade in support of the International Decade for People of African Descent, proclaimed by United Nation’s General Assembly resolution 68/237.
He was also listed on the 2022 PR Powerlist (Nigeria).
O’tega generously donates his time and resources to various causes, consistently engaging in volunteer work and mentoring young leaders.
O’tega also shares his expertise by speaking at various forums and providing consultancy services for individuals and corporations in the luxury brands and public affairs sectors.
