Mr. Shaakaa Kanyitor Chira assumed the role of Auditor-General for the Federation in Nigeria on 20 October, 2023, following his appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Early Life and Education
Born on 12 February, 1968, Shaakaa Chira hails from the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba state, Nigeria.
He boasts a robust educational background, holding a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Public Sector Accounting, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).
Professional Affiliations and Training
Chira is a distinguished Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA), a member of the Computer Forensics Institute of Nigeria (MCFI), and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACTI).
His commitment to continuous professional development is evident from the various specialized training programs he has completed over the years, including advanced courses in Performance Auditing, International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), Computer Forensics, and Statistical Analysis, among others.
Career Highlights
During his illustrious career, Chira has held pivotal roles within the public audit sector, showcasing his expertise and leadership capabilities. Some of his key positions include serving as Deputy Director of Audit for the Programme and Performance Audit Department, as well as the Federal Capital Territory/Area Council (FCT/AC) Audit Department in Abuja. He has also contributed significantly as an Assistant Director of Audit for the Legislative Audit Department at the National Assembly, and as the Chief Auditor at the Office of the Auditor General for the Federation.

Taking the Helm
Following the retirement of Mr. Adolphus Aghughu on 7 September, 2022, Shaakaa Chira assumed the prestigious role of Substantive Auditor-General for the Federation.
He was confirmed as the Substantive Auditor-General for the Federation on 1 November, 2023, by the Nigerian Senate.
His extensive experience, academic qualifications, and commitment to professional development position him to lead the nation’s auditing endeavors with expertise and integrity.
