Cristiano Ronaldo can add another record to his legacy after his performance on Sunday.
Ronaldo’s penalty in the 74th minute helped Real Madrid draw level with Villarreal in a game his side won 3-2.
It was the 57th penalty he has converted in La Liga play, moving him past Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez for the most all-time, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Sanchez spent 12 seasons in Spanish football, most notably scoring 208 goals in 282 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions from 1985 to 1992. He also played for four seasons at Atletico Madrid and one season for Rayo Vallecano before ending his career back in Mexico.
Ronaldo, who has scored 16 goals in 19 appearances for Real Madrid this term, has converted four penalties in his last 13 league appearances.
Sunday’s goal was Ronaldo’s 12th in 17 matches against Villarreal. It also marked his fifth consecutive away game with a goal in all competitions.
