Nigerian musicians Rema and Shallipopi have teamed up to release a new song titled “Benin Boys.”
The announcement was made by Rema on his ‘X’ page, with the track scheduled for a midnight release.
This collaboration highlights the duo’s connection to Benin City and pays homage to their roots.
Rema, who recently made waves at Paris Fashion Week, joins forces with fellow Benin indigene Shallipopi in this track that underscores the significance of their heritage.
“Benin Boys” is set to make a notable impact in the Afrobeat genre, celebrating their roots and setting a high bar for future releases.
This release comes on the heels of Rema’s recent accolades. On June 18, he earned a pair of ASCAP London Music Awards: Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song, both for his hit “Calm Down.”
The song achieved remarkable success, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending a record-setting 58 weeks atop the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart.
“Calm Down” also made history by reaching No. 1 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, marking a significant achievement for a song by an African lead artist. It served as the second single from “Rave & Roses,” Rema’s debut studio album, which reached No. 81 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on World Albums.
