Dr. George Nwaeke has resigned from his position as the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service. The resignation, confirmed in a statement from the office of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, was announced Tuesday morning.
The statement expressed appreciation for Nwaeke’s service during his brief tenure and wished him well in his future pursuits. “His Excellency, the Administrator appreciates the immense contributions he has shown this administration in the short period he served and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
Concurrently, Vice Admiral Ibas has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG). This appointment also follows a statement released by the Sole Administrator’s office.
The statement highlighted Worika’s qualifications, stating, “His appointment follows careful consideration of his credentials, extensive experience, and performance during a rigorous selection process.”
Professor Worika’s background includes extensive experience in academia, international legal practice, and policy advisory roles, making him a suitable candidate to support the Administrator in fulfilling his mandate. The appointment is effective immediately.
“Professor Worika’s appointment reflects the administrator’s commitment to harnessing the great human capital of the Rivers’ people to work with him to achieve the much-needed peace, stability and security,” the statement concluded.
These changes come during a period of administrative transition in Rivers State.
