Former President Shehu Shagari has commiserated with the Ekwueme family and Nigerians over the death of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.
Shagari made this known in a condolence message released on Monday in Sokoto.
Ekwueme was Nigeria’s number two citizen during the administration of Shagari from 1979 to 1983.
The former Vice President died in a London clinic on Sunday.
He had been rushed to the Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital in Enugu, after slumping at his Enugu residence.
“It is with a deep sense of loss that I learned about the demise of my brother and former Vice President Alex Ekwueme,” the former president said.
“The Turakin Sokoto who was the former Vice President was humble and obedient.
“On behalf of myself, I sincerely commiserate with Nigerians on his death. May his soul rest in peace,” he stated.
