Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for Chippa United in South Africa, has expressed his eagerness for the Super Eagles of Nigeria to clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nwabali, who plies his trade in the South African league, shared his desire to witness a showdown between the two nations, anticipating a thrilling encounter on the pitch.
With South Africa set to face Cape Verde in a quarter-final clash today, the outcome of the match will determine Nigeria’s opponent in the semi-final stage.
“Both Cape Verde and South Africa are good teams, but I want to play against South Africa,” Nwabali stated in an interaction with reporters. “I really wish to see how my defence will fare against them.”
The goalkeeper, who has conceded just once in five outings at the AFCON 2023 finals, expressed confidence in his ability to perform against familiar opponents, noting that many South African players are acquainted with his style of play.
“Yes, most of their players know me, and I also know them,” Nwabali remarked, highlighting the mutual understanding between him and the South African team.
