The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has mandated all telecommunication operators in the country to link their subscribers’ National Identity Numbers (NINs) to their phone numbers.
This guide provides a step-by-step process on how to link your Airtel number to your NIN.
What is NIN?
The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique 11-digit number that identifies you as a citizen or legal resident of Nigeria. It is issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) after you enroll for the National Identity Database (NIDB).
Why link NIN to Airtel?
Linking your NIN to your Airtel number is part of the government’s efforts to enhance security, prevent fraud, and harmonize data across different sectors.
The deadline for this exercise is February 24, 2024, and failure to comply may result in the deactivation or blocking of your SIM card.
