Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has emphasized the importance of maximum effort as Nigeria prepares to face Angola in the quarter-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Following Nigeria’s impressive 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the competition’s second round, Peseiro spoke with journalists, stressing the need for the team to maintain focus and intensity in the upcoming match against Angola.
Ademola Lookman’s brace secured the win for the Eagles, propelling them into the quarter-final clash against Angola.
Peseiro acknowledged that the match against Angola poses a greater challenge than the encounter with Cameroon, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong team spirit and dedication to the goal.
“The next match will be more difficult than this one. I think my players know that,” Peseiro remarked. “We are playing with a fantastic spirit now, but we must be focused on the target and train more before the next match.”
While acknowledging that Angola may not be considered among African football powerhouses, Peseiro urged his players to approach the match with determination and efficiency.
“I told my players that for this tournament, you need efficacy. Do not suffer, but score against your opponents. If they play that way, then we can beat Angola. We will need to give our maximum against Angola,” he stated.
