The Department of State Services (DSS) has revealed that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is not in their custody.
This comes amidst unconfirmed reports that the DSS had arrested Emefiele following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
According to the tweet from the agency’s official Twitter account, the DSS clarified the situation, stating, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
The suspension of Godwin Emefiele from his position as the governor of the CBN was announced by President Bola Tinubu on Friday night, taking immediate effect.
Emefiele was instructed to hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the interim CBN governor during the ongoing investigation and reforms.
Rumors about Emefiele’s arrest by the DSS began circulating shortly after news of his suspension broke.
However, these reports remain unconfirmed, as the DSS has now officially denied having custody of the former CBN governor.
