Former minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, has emerged as the flag bearer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Bayelsa State governorship election, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
Sylva, who resigned from his position as minister to run for governor of Bayelsa State in March, polled a whopping 52,061 votes to defeat his closest rivals, David Lyon, the 2019 APC governorship candidate, Joshua Maciver, and Dumebi Sunday Festus.
Sylva will face a stiff challenge in the election, as he will be up against the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, who is also the flag bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
