Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Nigerian politician and the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been cleared of forgery by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Action Alliance (AA) had filed a suit against Tinubu, alleging that he provided false information on his INEC Form CF 001 in 1999 about his educational qualifications. In particular, the AA claimed that Tinubu did not possess the certificates he claimed to have received from various educational institutions.
However, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that the suit was statute-barred, having been filed outside the 14-day window prescribed by the Fourth Alteration of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999.
The judge also stated that the court lacked the necessary jurisdiction to entertain the suit, and dismissed it as academic and grossly incompetent.
