President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the Republic of India following a devastating train crash that claimed the lives of more than 280 passengers.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday in the city of Balasore, located in the eastern state of Odisha.
In what has been described as one of the most severe rail accidents in recent history, two passenger trains collided with a goods train, leaving over 900 individuals injured in addition to the fatalities.
The news of this catastrophe has sent shockwaves throughout the nation and the international community.
A statement issued by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, President Tinubu’s media aide, conveyed the deep sorrow felt by the Nigerian leader.
“My heart goes out to the families of those affected in the unfortunate and heartrending train crash in the Indian State of Odisha,” Tinubu expressed.
He further emphasized Nigeria’s solidarity with India during this challenging time, calling for global support to assist India in effectively responding to this calamitous accident.
“We stand with India in brotherhood at this difficult time. The magnitude of the crash and the high casualty figure call for global support for India to adequately respond to this calamitous accident.
“I send my deepest sympathy and condolences to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of India and the families of those trapped in the crash,” Tinubu said in the statement on Saturday.
