President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by top government officials, embarked on a solemn visit to Owo town in Ondo State on Wednesday to pay his respects to the family of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former governor of Ondo.
Akeredolu, who passed away in December 2023 at the age of 67 after battling prostate cancer, was fondly remembered by President Tinubu and his delegation as they arrived in Owo to offer their condolences.
Upon their arrival, President Tinubu was warmly received by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, and other prominent politicians in the state.
The somber occasion saw the president and his delegation visit Akeredolu’s residence, where they met with Betty Anyanwu, the late governor’s wife, to express their heartfelt sympathies.
President Tinubu also paid his respects to Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo, honoring the traditional and cultural significance of the town during his visit.
After offering condolences to the Akeredolu family, President Tinubu was scheduled to proceed to Akure to visit the residence of Reuben Fasoranti, leader of Afenifere, a prominent pan-Yoruba socio-political organization.
The visit underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to showing compassion and solidarity during times of loss and grief, as he joined the people of Ondo State in mourning the passing of a beloved leader and statesman.
