One of Nigeria’s most controversial public officials, Senator Buruji Kashamu, who is wanted by the government of the United States over allegations of drug peddling, has been kicked out by the elections petition tribunal.
Kashamu is currently the senator representing Ogun East in the upper chamber of the national assembly. The tribunal ordered that the Independent National Electoral commission conducts a fresh poll within 90 days. Kashamu is expected to appeal the ruling.
Kashamu was not the only lawmaker who was kicked out by the tribunal. A member of the House of Representatives from Ijebu East/Ijebu North/Ogun waterside, Adekoya Adesegun, as well as five members of the state assembly also lost their seats.
