New Twitter’s CEO “Chief Twit” Elon Musk is allegedly considering making verification a Twitter Blue feature, as well as multiplying the subscription service’s cost by four.
This would essentially mean charging users a monthly $20 fee to maintain their blue tick verification badge.
Predictably, many users have said they’d rather just be unverified.
After the take off of Twitter by Elon Musk, there have been swift firings and a spike in slurs indicating significant changes for the company. Platformer first reported on Sunday that Twitter may soon require users to have a paid subscription to Twitter Blue in order to retain their verified status.
Twitter verification gives eligible accounts a little check mark badge authenticating their identity to others, and currently only demands the psychic cost of being on the platform.
Also, The Verge explains that there are also plans to increase the price of a Twitter Blue subscription from its already elevated $4.99 monthly cost to a whopping $19.99 per month. That’s the same price as a premium Netflix subscription, but with markedly bad content.
