The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Ayobami Olabiyi, a respected figure in the Yoruba movie industry. Olabiyi reportedly passed away on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a prolonged illness.
Olabiyi, fondly known as “Bobo B,” had been receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, where he was admitted due to his deteriorating health. Before his death, the actor was said to have lost the ability to move or speak, signaling the severity of his illness.
The announcement of his passing was made by Bose Akinola, the chairman of the Oyo State Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), in a statement late on Wednesday. Akinola shared the somber news with the public and members of TAMPAN.
“We announce the death of our TAMPAN National General Secretary, Chief Alhaji Musadshir Ayobami Olabiyi ‘Bobo B.’ May God give entire TAMPAN members globally and his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” Akinola said.
