The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has stated that his men are working round the clock to seek the release of Madam Ogere Siasia who is the mother of Nigerian ex-international and coach, Samson Siasia.
Unknown gunmen stormed the home of the 72-year-old mother at Odoni community of Sagama Local Council Area of Bayelsa state yesterday Tuesday November 17 2015 and abducted her.
Arase posited that the terrain in which the abductors operate has been a major challenge his men are facing.
Speaking in Ibadan, the IGP said: “The police are working to ensure that the woman is released as soon as possible. The difficulty we had initially is the terrain in that area. Mostly, abductors come through the riverine areas but we are working and overcoming that and I can assure you that she will be released very soon.”
Arase however revealed to the Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, that he was in the state to sensitise his men on the importance of community partnership.
“I am here in the state to talk and discuss with my officers that community partnership is the new trend in policing the world over and that nothing meaningful can be achieved without the collaborative support of members of the community at all levels.
“I want them to realise and see members of the community as strategic and important partners to successful community policing. More so, that they must be human rights compliant and respect the rule of law in the discharge of their duties by not harming those they are supposed to protect,” the police boss concluded.
