The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has opined that the reason why terrorism is on the increase in the North is because of the problem of unemployment adding that there must be a focus on building the socio-economic life of the citizenry.
He noted that there are over 2.5 million out-of-school children, who are known as almajiri in the North while over two million people have been displaced by insurgency. Abubakar advised that the only solution to this problem is to aim at increasing school enrollment, training youths in the acquisition of skills and opening up opportunities for skilled labour.
He however said that there is no relationship between islam and terrorism as he described the later as a scourge carried out by “deluded individuals who are hiding under religion to perpetrate evil”.
