The England women’s national football team, the Lionesses, have reached the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 3-1 victory over hosts Australia in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
The Lionesses, who are ranked third in the world, took the lead in the 10th minute through a penalty from Ellen White.
Australia equalized in the 34th minute through Sam Kerr, but England restored their lead in the 59th minute through a goal from Beth Mead.
The Lionesses sealed the victory in the 73rd minute with a goal from substitute Alessia Russo.
The win sets up a historic final against Spain, who defeated Sweden 2-1 in the other semi-final. It will be the first time that England has reached the final of the Women’s World Cup, and it will be a rematch of the 2019 semi-final, which Spain won 2-0.
The final will be played on Sunday, August 20, at the Stade de France in Paris.
